Atlanta Botanical Garden -
The Garden features 15 acres of outdoor
display gardens, in addition to the
conservatory housing rare and endangered
plants from tropical rainforests and desert
regions. Plant collections, especially
orchids, conifers and carnivorous plants, have
achieved eminence, and the native plant
conservation program is renowned. Through the
years the display gardens have been refined to
provide 12 months of beauty.
Atlanta History Center -
The History Center is one of the
Southeast's largest history museums,
research library's and archives that
annually serves more than 10,000 patrons. The
Center comprises two historic houses
illustrating over a century of Atlanta's
history; a two-acre midtown campus which
houses the Margaret Mitchell House &
Museum; and a series of gardens unique in both
design and horticultural presentation in the
metropolitan area.
CNN Center - The CNN Center
offers visitors a unique opportunity to go
behind the scenes of CNN's international
networks on the CNN Studio Tour …
tracing the growth of CNN as it parallels
world events over the past 20 years. Visitors
are able to actually 'see' news travel
though the newsrooms of CNN and Headline News
on its way to the anchor's desk where it
is delivered live right before their
eyes.
Carter Presidential Library
and Museum - The Carter Center is
committed to advancing human rights and
alleviating unnecessary human suffering.
Founded in 1982 by former U.S. President Jimmy
Carter and his wife, Rosalynn , the
Atlanta-based Center has helped to improve the
quality of life for people in more than 65
countries.
Centennial Olympic Park -
Originally built for the 1996 Summer Olympic
Games, the Park is a favorite not only of
Downtown residents, but of visitors from all
over Atlanta and all around the world. The
Fountain of Rings is the world's largest
interactive fountain utilizing the Olympic
symbol of five interconnecting Rings. Each of
the five Olympic Rings is 25 feet in diameter,
large enough to comfortably park two cars
side-by-side within each Ring.
Fernbank Museum of Natural
History - As one of the South's
preeminent museums, Fernbank Museum of Natural
History is a gateway for discovery and
exploration, unfolding the story of the
earth's history, the physical universe,
the environment and human culture through
exhibitions, programs and films in the
IMAX® Theatre.
Fox Theater - The Fox
stands today as a fiercely protected landmark
and a nationally acclaimed theater; having
survived depression, mortgage foreclosure,
bankruptcy, competition, television, real
estate development, and above all, age. The
Fox is an aggressively preserved Landmark that
has been designated a National Historic
Landmark, listed on the National Register of
Historic Places.
Georgia Aquarium - With
over 8 million gallons of fresh and marine
water, and 100,000 animals representing 500
species from around the globe, you’re
sure to see things you’ve never seen
before! There are 60 habitats at the Georgia
Aquarium with 12,000 square feet of viewing
windows. The largest habitat holds 6.2 million
gallons of water and measures 263’ long
x 126’ wide x 33’ deep, at its
largest points. It was specially designed to
house whale sharks along side ten of thousands
of other animals that typically live along a
coral reef and out to the open ocean. The
Georgia Aquarium boasts a 100 foot long tunnel
and one of the largest aquarium windows in the
world with views into whale shark
habitat.
High Museum of Art - The
High Museum of Art is the leading art museum
in the Southeastern United States. Located in
Atlanta's Midtown arts and business
district, The High's collections include
African art, American art, decorative arts,
European art, folk art, modern and
contemporary art, and photography. Today the
High welcomes nearly 500,000 visitors
annually, boasts a collection of over 11,000
works of art, and serves a membership of more
than 40,000 households, the eighth largest
museum membership in the country.
Margaret Mitchell House -
Margaret Mitchell penned the world's most
popular novel, Gone with the Wind, while
residing here. Having survived arson and many
seasons of decay, the house has been
completely restored. Guided tours feature a
wealth of historical and anecdotal information
on Mitchell, the house and Atlanta in
general.
Martin Luther King Jr.
Center - The King Center is the official,
living memorial dedicated to the advancement
of the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.,
leader of America's greatest nonviolent
movement for justice, equality and peace. More
than 650,000 visitors from all over the world
are drawn annually to the King Center to pay
homage to Dr. King, view unique exhibits
illustrating his life and teachings.
Piedmont Park - In the
heart of Midtown, Piedmont Park has a
surprising history unknown to most who enjoy
it. It has served as a farm, a World War I
encampment, a driving club (and we don't
mean golf...), and as the grounds for the 1895
Cotton States and International Exposition -
all before becoming a public park! This
historic site has hosted many of the events
that have helped shape Atlanta. Nearly
3,000,000 people a year visit Piedmont
Park.
Stone Mountain Park - On
3,200 gorgeous acres just 16 miles east of
downtown Atlanta, the perfect blend of outdoor
entertainment and recreation is realized at
Stone Mountain Park. The mountain itself is
the world's largest mass of exposed
granite. The centerpiece of the Park -- and
one of the true marvels of western engineering
-- is found on the mountain's North side,
where you'll see the world's largest
high relief carving, depicting three heroes of
the American Confederacy.
Underground Atlanta -
Underground Atlanta combines the old Atlanta
with the contemporary world style. This
five-block area is a historic site, decorated
with features such as shopping, dining and
reoccurring annual events. In addition, over a
100 street vendors provide their services as
you walk thru this unique Atlanta
landmark.
World of Coca-Cola - The World of
Coca-Cola traces the history of the
world's most popular soft drink.
You'll journey more than 100 years into
the past and explore the future of the magical
story of Coca-Cola®. View vintage
television commercials, watch the evolution of
product packaging and vending, including the
first soft-drink dispenser in space, and taste
23 exotic beverages made by The Coca-Cola
Company around the world (but not available in
the U.S.), one of the most popular parts of
the attraction.
Zoo Atlanta - Today this
nationally recognized animal habitat is home
to two giant pandas, Lun Lun and Yang Yang, on
loan from the Chengdu Zoo in China. Primates
run free in the Ford African Rain Forest and
the people are contained to an intricate maze
of pathways that allow you to explore wildlife
from all across the world.
